An Yu-jin Clears Up Misunderstanding Over Childhood Photo: “My Prescription Was -9, That’s Why My Eyes Looked Small”
IVE’s An Yu-jin recently addressed the resurfacing of an old photo from her elementary school days during the premiere of Earth Arcade 3, a popular tvN variety show.
The April 25th episode featured the four Earth Warriors, Lee Eun-ji, Mimi, Lee Young-ji, and An Yu-jin, who gathered for a pre-show meeting. Producer Na Young-seok initiated a game where the members had to recreate past outfits or looks. As part of the game, the cast’s old photos were revealed one by one, with each member’s past self bringing a mix of nostalgia and laughs.
Among the photos shared was An Yu-jin’s 2015 elementary school photo, where she was seen wearing thick glasses that made her eyes appear small. In the photo, Yu-jin, who dreamed of becoming an elementary school teacher at the time, had a motto of “Don’t set limits on yourself.”
This image, however, prompted teasing from fellow cast member Lee Young-ji, who joked, “Yu-jin, what are those glasses? Wearing those must make your vision like 7.0.” Despite the teasing, An Yu-jin responded calmly, explaining, “My prescription was -9 back then. That’s why I looked funny and my eyes looked small.”
As the conversation continued, the members playfully suggested that if Yu-jin were to recreate the look, she’d have to wear the same clothes, gain weight, and even cut her hair for accuracy. In response, Yu-jin humorously added, “Then I’d have to undo my braces too,” revealing that she had gone through orthodontic treatment, which made everyone laugh.
An Yu-jin’s candid response helped clarify the reasons behind her childhood appearance and added a light-hearted moment to the show, allowing fans to enjoy a glimpse into her past.
